The Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year. It is a sacred threshold. It marks the moment when darkness reaches its peak and the sun is reborn, offering the promise of renewal, clarity, prosperity, and fresh beginnings. Across cultures and centuries, this turning of the wheel has been honored with fire, intention, prayer, and quiet reflection. It is a night when the veil feels soft and our magic feels strongest.
At Vesadia Divine Aquarian Creations, the Solstice is a deeply cherished moment: a still point where we gather our light, anchor our intentions, and whisper our desires into the returning sun.
One of my favorite ways to honor this night is through a simple, powerful Bayberry Candle Ceremony, a tradition that blends ancient symbolism with seasonal magic.
A Brief History: Why Bayberry candles are a good option.
Bayberry candles have long been associated with blessing, abundance, good fortune, and protection. In early American colonial households, bayberry wax was rare and more costly than tallow. Because of its scarcity and its sweet, earthy scent, families saved bayberry candles for holidays, prosperity blessings, and sacred moments.
A New England saying emerged:
“A bayberry candle burned to the socket
brings luck to the home and gold to the pocket.”
Over time, Christian communities adopted this practice during Christmas and New Year celebrations. Burning a bayberry candle on Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve symbolized:
-Blessings for the household
-Prosperity in the year ahead
-Protection through the winter
-Welcoming the return of light through the Christ child or divine guidance
This tradition echoed the older pagan custom of lighting candles to welcome back the sun during the Solstice. Today, many spiritual practitioners blend both lineages, transforming the bayberry candle into a symbol of hope, renewal, and abundance. This simple candle became a bridge between old world folklore and new world spirituality.
My Winter Solstice Bayberry Candle Ceremony
This ceremony is simple, accessible, and beautifully powerful. It aligns perfectly with the Solstice’s themes of rebirth, reflection, and the quiet summoning of prosperity.
1. Preparation: Finding Your Bayberry Candle
True bayberry candles are made from real bayberry wax, they are highly sought after around the holidays. They often sell out quickly, so I always prepare early. By next year I will be making my own hand crafted energy infused bayberry candles and preparing pre made custom kits for sale.
Part of the magic is in the preparation itself. Think of it as your first act of intention, setting for the year ahead: You are gathering what you need to manifest what you desire.
2. Sunset Meditation & Intention Crafting
On the day of the Solstice, I prepare just before sunset. This is the moment the longest night begins, an invitation to soften, sink inward, and listen.
I meditate on:

This is your energetic blueprint. Let it be honest. Let it be expansive. Let it be yours.
3. Carving Fehu & Anointing the Candle
Next, I prepare my candle.
I scratch or carve the Fehu rune symbol into the bayberry candle.
Fehu represents:
*Wealth *Prosperity *New beginnings *Energetic flow *The spark of creation
It is a perfect symbol for Solstice work, aligning both ancient Norse energy and the seasonal turning of new cycles.
After carving, I anoint the candle with a prosperity aligned oil.
Excellent oil choices:
How to choose:
As I anoint the candle, I visualize abundance and prosperity flowing toward me with ease. I think the words “ Bayberry Bayberry burn to the core, money in my pocket, wealth to my door.”
4. Lighting the Candle & Completing the Ritual
When the candle is ready, I go to a quiet, safe space.
Safety is essential; this is a ritual of intention, not risk.
Safe burning options include:
I light my candle, breathe deeply, let the flame illuminate and deliver my intentions into the universe while I say out loud “Bayberry bayberry burn to the core, money in my pocket wealth to my door.” and of course for the goodness of all may no harm come to others.
I prefer to burn my candle completely before midnight to seal the prosperity charm and honor the Bayberry tradition.
My intentions are cast. My path illuminated. Abundance is finding its way to me. This is my favorite way to celebrate the winter solstice.
